A lot of people either use the same Facebook interests from the top 25 on Facebook Ads Manager or they don't really know how to actually search and target the best ones for their business.
In this article, we will discuss the best practices we found to get the most out of your Adboost Searches and Clicks to form the best targeting for your next supercharged Facebook Ad. Let's go!
Using Adboost Interest Search to find hidden and untapped interests
Let's assume you want to target people who like Women's Basketball.
What we usually do is search for:
This will result in a good 15 interests but we can get more. Also sometimes, you might see 0 or 1 interest for some multiple-word searches.
To improve this, you can try to breakdown the search into more important single word searches like in this case: Basketball
This will result in around 169 interests which give us more options to choose from.
Best Practise Number 2:
If you're searching in a language other than English then we would recommend you to try searching in English with "translate to" option set to your preferred language. This will result in a better search and you can anyway post-search translate each of the interests using the google translate button. Let's see this in action.
Case 1: Searching "Fashion" in Spanish & Translating in English (default):
This will give us only 45 search results which are not bad but we can improve this further.
Case 2: Searching "Fashion" in Spanish & Translating in the same language (Spanish):
This will give us only 53 search results. That's 8 different search results that you might never find out if you didn't try to implement these tactics.
But hang on, we can improve this too!
Case 3: Searching "Fashion" in English & Translating in your preferred language (Spanish in this case):
This will result in a whopping 194 interests. That's 141 interests you'll never find out if you didn't embrace this best practice. Search Auto translation might not work for all the text & that's why we have provided a google translate button for accurate translation in your language in a single click.
And there is always a possibility that among those 141 interests you might find a few that work wonders for your business. That's a lot of untapped audiences that not every Facebook advertiser is targeting.
Don't let your searches go to waste
We always recommend saving your favorite interests in your lists as soon as you see them. Before you try different varieties of searches, try to select those interests that already fit your requirement and save them using the "Add to Lists" Button. It hardly takes a minute. You can then continue doing multiple searches and find more interests.
Simplify your Page searches
Adboost Page search is based on a complex search algorithm that goes through a lot of nodes to provide you with the most accurate results of pages that are valid interests (PTRVI). Due to the complexity of the search, we recommend never combining more than two words in your Page Searches. If you do so, you will get fewer pages that are valid interests (PTRVI) just like we saw in Best Practise Number 2 for interest searches.
Use Suggestion & Liked Pages to dig deep
Suggestion provides one of the unique advantages for finding more hidden interests related to a particular interest that you already shortlisted. This is why we recommend shortlisting (save into list) your interests first and then digging deep into those interests using the suggestion feature.
Let's assume the scenario where we have selected the interest "Women's National Basketball Association" and we want to find similar interests.
Let's see what suggestions we get for the above one:
Here we get Seattle Storm & a few others that were not a part of our "Basketball" Interest Search. This is a huge game-changer.
Suggestions usually contain some hidden interests that you'll never find in a normal search.
Similarly Liked Pages will find all the Facebook Pages that are valid interest to target that a particular Facebook Page has liked (which is also a valid interest to target) in a single click.
